Since the devastating fires of 2015 the Arboretum and wonderful little tea garden with their fresh pastries and awesome meals has been closed to the public. I stand under correction but I think MTB is now allowed but please check first.

The Arboretum was set out by JS Lister in1885 and was the beginning of forestry in the country. Alien trees from all over the world were planted here as an experiment to see what was suitable to be grown in South Africa. The end result was we have a beautiful forest tucked away in Tokai Cape Town that very few people know off.

The Arboretum was declared a National Monument in1985 and boasts with a figure of around 270 tree types. It was also a paradise for birders, nature lovers and family outings

The Aboretum was also an ideal starting point to hike up to Silvermine National park and the well-known Elephants Eye Cave.
